Linux has several security options including built-in
firewall protection. There are pre-configured firewall rules
that will disallow various kinds of network connections. There
is a tradeoff of security versus functionality. For instance,
if you set up a really secure firewall it is unlikely that you
will be able to ftp files from one system to another as ftp
is known to be insecure and the firewall will block it.
